Citrix DaaS control plane and resource locations: who manages what?

The official Citrix overview distinguishes between cloud management services and resource locations hosting application desktops. After understanding these two layers, you can determine which ones are maintained by the service provider and which ones are still the responsibility of the organization. You can also avoid thinking that the subscription includes all machines and storage.

First, identify the product line

The official overview of Citrix DaaS positions it for desktop and application virtualization, and resources can be located on-premises or in the public cloud. Readers should distinguish between the control components managed by the service provider and the resource locations that host desktops and applications; purchasing a managed service does not mean that all underlying resource charges are included.

Differentiate control plane and resource location with responsibility table

Draw user entrance, identity, management control and application resources into four parts, and write the responsible parties respectively. Whether the fault occurs in the resource list, certification or application operation, the processing path is different; the project contract needs to clearly state the underlying cloud resources, patches and support responsibilities.

The control plane is responsible for the management and delivery process, and the actual Windows desktop and business applications also run at the resource location. When understanding these two layers, you can first list subscription management, user access, bearer computing, system mirroring, data and network into six rows, and write the provider and maintainer respectively. The vendor manages some control components, and it is not possible to recommend that all desktop machines and business applications are maintained by the vendor.

Resources may be on-premises to the organization or in the cloud of choice, and projects will need to continue to confirm service connectivity, authentication, and business networks. The user cannot see the resource, which is a different problem than the resource being visible but the application cannot be opened. The fault record should first mark the layer where it occurred and then assign it to the corresponding person in charge. What is described here is a method of dividing responsibilities, not a complete deployment topology that can be copied to any Citrix version.

Designate separate responsible parties for identity, network, imaging, patching, and failure support.
Use resource discovery and business running two tests to check whether the fault can be handed over to the correct person.

Subscription scope should be compared item by item with the contract

Price Citrix service subscriptions, underlying cloud or local devices, Windows and application licensing, and operation and maintenance support separately or indicate that they are already available. If the provider has other packaging plans, it should also confirm in the order which fees are included. Only in this way can we explain what exactly the subscription purchased, and avoid discovering that the underlying resources do not have corresponding service responsibilities when a failure occurs.
